Seasonal Sightings is a catalog. There is no cart, no checkout, no account to create and no form to fill in, so there is nothing here that asks you for your name, address or payment details — and we have no way to collect them.
What follows is everything that does happen when you load a page.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages and products people actually look at. It sets cookies in your browser and records things like the pages you view, roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device and browser you used. Google anonymises IP addresses in GA4 before storing them.
We use this to decide what to put on the site. We do not sell it, and we do not use it to try to identify you individually.
To opt out entirely, install Google's browser add-on, or block cookies for this domain in your browser settings. The site works fine without them.
Third parties that see your visit
Loading a page here means your browser also talks to a few other companies. Each of them necessarily sees your IP address and basic request information:
- Cloudflare — hosts the site and serves every page.
- Google Fonts — the site's typefaces load from Google's servers.
- Shopify's image CDN — most product photos are served directly from the retailer's own image host rather than copied onto this site.
- Google Analytics — as described above.
- Affiliate networks — where a link is marked "Affiliate link", clicking it passes you through that network's redirect (for example Sovrn or CJ Affiliate). They set a cookie so the retailer knows the visit came from us, and that cookie is what lets a purchase be credited to this site. It is set when you click, not when you load the page.
We do not control what those companies do with that information; their own privacy policies apply.
Links to retailers
Every product on this site links out to the retailer that sells it. Once you click, you are on their site and their privacy policy applies, not ours.
Some of those links are affiliate links — meaning we earn a commission if you buy something, at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links work by tagging the click so the retailer knows it came from us.
Most links on this site are not affiliate links and earn us nothing. The ones that do are labelled "Affiliate link" next to the button, and every page carries a disclosure at the top. We choose what to feature before we consider whether it pays.
We are not paid to feature any particular product. Nothing here is a sponsored placement.
If you email us, we keep the email so we can reply to it. Mail sent to this domain is forwarded through Cloudflare Email Routing to a personal inbox. We do not run a mailing list and will not add you to one.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Cookies, in short
- Analytics cookies — set on page load by Google Analytics.
- Affiliate tracking cookies — set only if you click a link marked "Affiliate link". Nothing is set for the other links on this site.
There are no advertising cookies, no retargeting pixels, and no cookies we set ourselves.
Your choices
You can block or clear cookies at any time in your browser, and the analytics opt-out above works site-wide. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to ask what data exists about you and to have it deleted — in practice the only such data here is whatever sits in Google Analytics, and clearing your cookies removes the identifier that links it to your browser. Email us if you want anything else looked into.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of the page changes with it.
